"Six million spent and it's flooding: call for a commission of inquiry into the Baldaccio"

Arezzo, August 5, 2025 – " Six million spent and it's flooding: we're calling for a commission of inquiry into the Baldaccio."
It was a heavy storm, but with €6 million spent, it's unacceptable to see firefighters emptying the Baldaccio underpass. This prompts us to call for a commission of inquiry to shed light on so much public money spent on a project that, at the first downpour, reveals all its limitations.
Seeing the works carried out by Mayor Engineer Ghinelli and his councilor Engineer Sacchetti, to use a famous phrase by Checco Zalone, we are led to ask: are these people in the profession?
This government has accustomed us to projects implemented superficially and without considering the various issues that can arise with new public works; all of this, however, at the expense of citizens.
In October, during the first flood, they justified themselves by claiming that the fault was due to the presence of wooden slats, construction debris, and that the work was still under the company's responsibility. Today, the fault lies with the Pescaiola sewer system, which is under pressure. In our opinion, as we have repeatedly highlighted, just as with the new roundabout on Via Fiorentina, proper considerations regarding water disposal were not made.
In March 2023, we requested a specific commission on the Baldaccio double-barrel project to determine whether these issues had been addressed together with Nuove Acque. The Administration responded that everything had been verified and that there would be no problems. Time and facts have proven us right.
Today we learned that Councilor Sacchetti convened a technical meeting with both the planners and technicians from Nuove Acque. This demonstrates that our concerns were clearly well-founded and that the sewer system on Via Alessandro dal Borro was unable to handle the water from the underpass.
This is yet another demonstration that this government, in ten years of non-government—for example, regarding the long-standing issue of the barracks/swimming pool on Via Filzi—has been unable to complete a project that would improve the lives of citizens, while squandering millions of public funds.
